Drew Binsky: Traveling to the World’s Most Underrated Destinations

He has been to every country in the world since 2012 and makes a living by sharing inspiring stories and documenting from the world’s most inaccessible spots.

As Drew explains on his blog, the travel bug first hit him during a five-month stay in Europe during his junior year of college in Prague. After visiting over 20 countries, he knew what he wanted to do for a living.

Since then, Drew has worked hard to build his social media community from scratch, developing a particular interest in visiting countries that many perceive as dangerous due to authoritarian regimes or ongoing military conflicts.

In many of his videos, Drew admits that some of his best memories come from these underrated places.

For example, through Drew’s camera lenses, we can now take a closer look at the world’s oldest city – Babylon, in Iraq – from its inner walls and learn more about humankind’s earliest civilizations.

Drew’s fascination with the world’s hidden cultures is infectious. Take the video he filmed during his five-week journey in Iran, a country home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, famous for its carpet-weaving art, breathtaking nature, and stunning Islamic architecture.

Wherever he goes, Drew befriends locals and showcases the simplicity of life in places often shunned by tourists – places where people are eager to leave due to war and poverty.

At the end of 2022, Drew embarked on an eight-day road trip across mainland Yemen, a country ruled by disorder, extreme poverty, and terrorism. There, we are introduced to the ‘Manhattan of the desert,’ Shibam, a city with 650-year-old mud-brick towers. From Drew, we also learn that the Yemeni people are humble, don’t even keep track of their birthdays, drink a lot of chai, and chew khat (a stimulant drug).

There are countless fascinating things to discover about the world. For instance, in a video filmed in Okinawa, Drew reveals the secret  to living a long and content life.
